In the last programme of this series recorded at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Paul Tortelier appears not only as teacher and performer, but also as composer. He works first with Sophie Harris and Richard Bamping on the Sonata in D minor by Debussy. Then, with Christopher Hoyle and Oren Shevlin , the Sonata breve which Tortelier completed in 1983. This is an entertaining musical picture of Alexander the Great and his legendary horse
Bucephalus. Tortelier dedicated it to Prince Charles 'because he played the cello, and likes horses very much'. Pianist John Wilson Sound CHRIS HOLCOMBE
