Key events in the wildlife calendar
Narrated by Robert Hardy The countryside is rich in animals, birds and insects whose lives are governed by the seasons.
In winter salmon spawn and hordes of wildfowl arrive. Spring brings a bustle of courtship, birdsong and the hatching of downy chicks. Summer is the time for insects, deer fawns and young badgers fighting and frolicking in the setts.
Autumn, season of plenty, is when grey seal pups are born and fallow bucks face up to the rut.

continues a major season of films from New Zealand.
Tonight starring John Gielgud Jane Birkin
John Middleton Murry is asked by his young wife,
Katherine Mansfield , to 'leave all fair' on her death. But as the years progress and her stature as New Zealand's greatest writer grows, Murry publishes her lesser writings. Years later Murry travels to France to approve a major new editing of his wife's works. There he meets his publisher's assistant - also a New Zealander - who bears a striking resemblance to
Katherine. She then disturbs him by questioning his motives in publishing
Katherine's lesser works.
This elegant film was shot on location in France and is based on fact.
Screenplay by STANLEY HARPER Produced by JOHN O'SHEA Directed by JOHN REID
