Key events in the wildlife calendar
Narrated by Robert Hardy The countryside is rich in animals, birds and insects whose lives are governed by the seasons.
In winter salmon spawn and hordes of wildfowl arrive. Spring brings a bustle of courtship, birdsong and the hatching of downy chicks. Summer is the time for insects, deer fawns and young badgers fighting and frolicking in the setts.
Autumn, season of plenty, is when grey seal pups are born and fallow bucks face up to the rut.
