The second of seven programmes Nancy Mitford
A Portrait by Her Sisters
NANCY MITFORD 'S four surviving sisters appear in one programme to describe how close her brilliantly funny novels, The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate, are to life as it was lived in Gloucestershire, London and Paris between the wars and after. There is Pamela who shows us Gloucestershire, where Lord Redesdale brought up his six daughters and one son; Diana, widow of Sir Oswald Mosley , in Paris; Jessica, herself a distinguished author, now in California, a seasoned rebel and left-wing sympathiser; and Deborah, the Duchess of Devonshire, Nancy's youngest sister.

The second of seven programmes

"I treasure the solitude that farming gives me. It's a sort of tedium in which you needn't think where you're going to throw the next shovelful of muck and can think instead about how you're going to put the next words together."

Dic Jones's serious words have been gravely received and rewarded by many prizes, including the most coveted of all, the Chair at the National Eisteddfod. His lighter lines celebrate joyful events, lampoon the living and commemorate the dead, works often done to order and repaid usually with thanks but on one occasion with a gift of four trout - "which worked out at a trout a line."

Rocky Circus
June 1981. Gerry Cottle 's circus is sinking into the mud of a wet summer. But even as Cottle is deciding to kill one show, he's dreaming of another. It's an audacious scheme, a revolution, a breakthrough ... It's called Hock Circus. Cottle has seen battered pop star, Gary Glitter , and pronounced him ' a real showman'. The plan is to build the circus around his outrageous mix of high camp and deafening rock. There are only 14 days to complete the marriage. After that, the circus goes on tour, and the audience will decide ...
This is what happened when Gerry Cottle caught his falling star and put him on a motorbike balancing on a tightrope.
