Beyond the Milky Way
When the third Earl of Rosse first looked through his ' monster telescope, he saw the curious spiral structure of the Whirlpool Galaxy. Today's astronomers use modern electronic aids to peer into the most distant realms of space and time, back to when the galaxies first formed. Can we begin to see an evolutionary sequence, with quasars dying away to hide in galaxies like ours? And in the future will we collide with our neighbour galaxies as the Whirlpool already has?

A feature film starring
William Powell , Bette Davis
Although not strictly a musical, this light-hearted comedy has - as its highlight - two extraordinary and lavish Busby Berkeley numbers which justify its inclusion in this short Warner Brothers' season. Powell stars as a not-too-honest businessman who tricks the world of Paris fashion. There's comedy, romance, intrigue and highly-unlikely coincidences along the way to a happy finale.

by J.S. BACH
During the period as a Kapellmeister at Cothen, Bach composed a set of six concertos commissioned by and dedicated to Christian Ludwig Margrave of Brandenburg. They are at the summit of Bach's instrumental music - each different from the other and each consummate in the skill and vitality of its creation.
On successive evenings this week, Raymond Leppard introduces and directs from the harpsichord the complete cycle, beginning tonight with Concerto No 1, in F major. John Tunnell (violino piccolo) Frank Lloyd and Chris Griffiths (horns)
