The 1980 Greenall Whitley Bowling Handicap
This is the 72nd Waterloo Crown Green Bowling tournament, the acknowledged Cup Final of the game. Two thousand and forty-eight players started on the long trail to today's final, and for the first time in its history the semi-finals and final will be shown live.
The Waterloo is played in all weathers - many viewers will remember the ' water-splash ' final of 1976, played throughout in pouring rain. And, as usual, the event is a sell-out. In this tense atmosphere, the winner will pick up a first prize of £1,500 from total prize money of just over £5,000.

Since they were ' discovered' in the 60s, this close-knit family of travelling people have become widely-celebrated for their musical talents-as singers and pipers - and for their repertoire of ancient stories and riddles.
But what happens to a long-lived culture when it is exposed to modern presentation? This film asks some questions.
