The Rotten World About Us
Ink caps and parasols, stinkhorns and earthstars, death caps and puff-balls appear in season as if by magic. Moulds and mushrooms can frighten us, poison us, annoy us and even eat us -yet fungi also cure, feed and delight us. Not of the plant or animal realms, fungi belong to a third kingdom and their presence as agents of putrefaction and decay is essential to life on this planet.
But how do they live? What are the secrets of their widespread manifestation? Why do some fungi form strange alliances with animals and plants?

Richard Benjamin , Frank Langella Carrie Snodgress
For Jonathan Balser , a smugly affluent New York lawyer, success is measured by being seen at parties with the ' right' people, and knowing how to order over-priced French wines. But for Tina, his long-suffering wife, the dreadful conformity and social climbing are an increasing burden. In desperation she embarks on an affair with writer George Prager. An affair which, for all its sexual satisfaction, brings Tina even more mental strain ...
