Fifteen documentary films about life in Britain made week-by-week from September to Christmas last year. 2: Shinty Town
The wild tribal sport of Shinty, a distant cousin of hockey which makes football look like only a game, is Newtonmore's great uniting fervour.
This is the week of the local derby against Kingussie, the next village, and life in Newtonmore is dominated by the prospect of the match. But much else goes on. There is a bankruptcy and a gift from an unknown benefactor to the village. Some locals lose their jobs, and some others lose their salmon poaching gear. And over the Inverness-shire village is a threat to its bread and butter - the tourist business is in jeopardy from a bypass.
