Eight explorations with Professor W. G. Hoskins
"I had the good fortune to be born in a small and ancient city with unravished country all around it."
In the heart of Devon Professor William Hoskins explores this still beautiful countryside of his youth. With its isolated farms and its churches; villages and towns that have failed, and the small and ancient city of Exeter. And he shows how. over the centuries. success and sometimes even failure in farming and village life have produced a peaceful and unravished countryside.
"A programme that lifts even the most tele-fatigued eyelid and revives the spirit." (Daily Mail)

Law-breakers, law-enforcers, lawyers, the law - in 13 frank documentary films set in Florida, USA.
Cecil Branch has battered his girlfriend Regina MacGriff with a hammer. It's the
second time he's done it. But Branch has a choice. Stand trial and take what's
coming - or give up his constitutional right to a trial and do a backstairs deal with the judge. In a scene of remarkable frankness, judge, prosecution and defence calmly trade off segments of Cecil Branch's life â life lost in Florida's crowded jails, and redeemed only by Florida's hard-pressed Parole Board.
Cecil Branch's case is unremarkable. To save the court's time, 90 per cent of Circuit Eleven cases are disposed of as his was. It is called 'plea bargaining' â an alarming process - for the incentives to plead guilty are often irresistible. Lest anyone should suppose that plea bargaining is an American aberration, English lawyer Walter Merricks reminds us that much the same pressures are put on defendants in this country.
