Search for the Great Apes
Narrated by CAROLINE MEDAWAR
Dian Fossey and Birute Gaidikas -Brindamour have spent nearly 15 years between them in the forests of Africa and Borneo trying to do for the gorilla and orang-utan what Jane Goodall did for the wild chimpanzee. Now, through painstaking and persistent determination, both women are edging closer to a fuller understanding of our fellow primates. The first time a mountain gorilla touched her, Dian Fossey wrote: ' For that fleeting instant a bridge spanning a chasm of immeasurable time linked our two species. I thought myself the most fortunate person in the world.' In this film we can share such rare and moving moments through some remarkable photography of our nearest animal relations.
Produced for the National Geographic Society and Wolper Productions by CHRISTINE Z. WISER and DAVID SAXON Series editors ANTHONY ISAACS and CHRISTOPHER PARSONS. BBC Bristol

by Oskar Kokoschka
On the eve of his 90th birthday, one of the greatest painters of our century, OSKAR KOKOSCHKA presents his play about the Protestant Moravian bishop, Comenius. Persecuted by the fanatical Catholic Emperor Ferdinand II and an exile throughout the 30-Years' War, Comenius struggles to change the world in the face of religious bigotry and violence.
Kokoschka started to write the play before the First World War and completed it in exile in England in 1942. His colourful and dramatic interpretation of history created a political suspense story which was still topical when it finally received its world premiere in this distinguished German production.
