As Minister of Transport, Sir Richard Marsh was the youngest Cabinet Minister of this century. Now, as Chairman of British Rail, he is gamekeeper-turned-poacher. Sir Richard, a railwayman's son, is a tireless critic of the government for its indecision about the future of our railways.
The film follows him in the six months leading up to his New Year knighthood during which the railways celebrated their 150th anniversary. In this film, he rides a 150 mph train, joins the NUR in a sing-song, is host to Prince Philip at the opening of the National Railway Museum, and makes a day-trip to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to borrow six million pounds.
