The Greatest Show in the West
It's like a fever ... it gets hold of you and you can't leave it alone.
Over 70 years ago Fred Betty , MBE, caught Carnival fever in Bridgwater and he still hasn't recovered. Symptoms are a joyous lunacy which makes people join Carnival clubs, each one conveniently based in a pub. They spend every waking hour - and sacrifice holidays - working on an act for the Carnival concert and on the float for the procession.
Carnival fever becomes an epidemic in November as the massive floats, covered in thousands of lights, awash with music and splendour, parade through the streets raising funds for local charities. Bridgwater justly boasts that there's nothing else like it in the country, or in the world.

The Long Long Walkabout
The Australian Aborigines are different from the rest of humanity: their origin and past has long been one of the great mysteries. Now, the far ranging detective work of Australian scientists, led by PROFESSOR N. W. G. MACINTOSH , has revealed a story stretching back 50,000 years ago to southern China.
Step by step, the film follows Macintosh's investigation: to a sacred mountain whose hollow interior is the tomb of a whole tribe; to tropical jungles where a last few Aborigines still live in ancient style; to desert dunes in Australia's outback where lie the remains of what was once the most sophisticated society in the world; and to caves in the Philippines where bat excrement has preserved vital clues to the origin of all mankind.
