Two of Hollywood's most famous musicals together for the first time on British television The Jolson Story starring Larry Parks , Evelyn Keyes with William Demarest , Bill Goodwin
This story of the legendary singer who gave the movies their first singing voice with the arrival of the talkies became the most successful film musical of its era. Jolson dubbed all the songs for Larry Parks - and even appears himself in one long shot. The film put Jolson back on the map after years in obscurity and firmly enshrined him in show business legend.

starring Larry Parks with Barbara Hale , William Demarest Myron McCormick
The Jolson Story leaves Al Jolson at the peak of his success with the arrival of the talkies. Larry Parks repeats his uncannily accurate portrayal as the story follows Jolson through the doldrums of the 30s and his comeback in the 40s - with a host of authentic Jolson hit tunes along the way.

The First Signs of Washoe
All normal humans have language: no other living organisms do.
This view is still maintained by many scientists: that one of the essential differences between man and other animals is our unique control of language.
But in 1966, two psychologists began an experiment that challenges this assumption. They took a chimpanzee called Washoe into their own home and brought her up almost as a human child-but using only sign language in her presence. Hoping that she would somehow pick it up, they recorded her progress on film. Their efforts did not go unrewarded. Narrator IAN HOLM
