at the Ronnie Scott Club
A series of weekly programmes featuring some of Britain's top jazz artists at Europe's No 1 Jazz Club

Tonight, Alex Welsh and his Band:
Alex Welsh (trumpet - cornet), Roy Williams (trombone), Al Gay, Johnny Barnes (saxophones and clarinets), Fred Hunt (piano), Harvey Weston (bass), Jim Douglas (guitar), Lennie Hastings (drums)

The band has been in existence since 1954 with remarkably few changes of personnel. It has built an enormous reputation accompanying visiting American jazz musicians, and last year Alex and the band were invited to the Newport Jazz Festival in America where they earned rave notices from the critics.
'A band unlike anything we have in the us today - call it mainstream if you will - to me it's jazz in the best sense of the word' (Dan Morgenstern editor, Downbeat magazine)
'One of the most perfectly realised jazz selections that this listener has heard at Newport - or for that matter anywhere!' (John S. Wilson, New York Times)
