Tonight: Who'll Be Mother?: 1: Nannies
Once the 'perks' of the privileged, today they are as busy as ever. The world of Mary Poppins, Wendy and Peter Pan, and Christopher Robin may have adapted but it certainly hasn't died out.
The new legions of working mothers and career women are looking for nannies to bring up their children, and the old argument about surrendering mother's responsibility is in the air again.
Tonight Man Alive comes from the Norland Nursery Training College where school-leavers are trained for a lifetime of service-bringing up other people's children. With a group of would-be nannies the team asks whether it is a good idea to delegate the upbringing of your children.
And next week-the Prep Schools, boarding schools for 8-year-olds, which carry on where Nanny leaves off.
