Le Marteau sans Maitre by Pierre Boulez has been described as the most influential piece of music to be written in the last twenty years. Igor Stravinsky called it the one undisputed masterpiece of the post-war era. Tonight Workshop presents an analysis and performance of Le Marteau sans Maitre, specially adapted and designed for television - hence, Tele-Marteau.
This film demonstrates Boulez's ideas that music can be played in a number of different combinations or orders. For the first showing of Tele-Marteau the nine sections of musical analysis will be shown together, followed by the nine movements of music which they complement. If however the film is shown again the order can be extensively shuffled, and each different running order should provide a different viewpoint.
With Yvonne Minton (mezzo-soprano), Aurele Nicolet (flute), Serge Collot (viola), Anton Stingl (guitar), Claude Ricou (vibraphone) Georges van Gucht (xylorimba) Jean Batigne (percussion)

A new series of programmes of lunacy and laughter starring, as your hosts Dan Rowan and Dick Martin featuring a regular company of crazy characters and a bewildering array of guests

BBC-2's 'Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In' is a phenomenon of comic compression. Somebody wrote to tell me that the average show contains a minimum of 300 wisecracks in fifty minutes. Watching the first one I thought that there must be at least 300 scriptwriters; actually I lost count of the final credits, but concluded that there were in fact eight or ten writers. (L. Marsland Gander, Daily Telegraph)
