In the second of his visits to places where Bach lived and worked, Joshua Rifkin travels to Arnstadt and Miihlhausen.
Bach's present-day successor at
Arnstadt's 300-year-old 'NewChurch', Gottfried Preller , demonstrates the new organ built as an exact copy of the instrument Bach knew, and leading Bach scholar Ulrich Leisinger takes us to the St Blasius Church in Muhlhausen, where Bach's first large-scale cantatas were composed and performed. Piers Lane reflects on BBC archive recordings by the English pianist Denis Matthews who, in the 1950s and the 1980s, was as well known for his broadcasts about music as he was for his performances. Matthews had a special love for the music of Beethoven and Mozart, and this programme includes piano works by Beethoven and Bach,
Mozart's Fantasy and Sonata in C minor and The Indian Diary by Busoni.

Trisha Brown has been pushing back the boundaries of contemporary dance since the early 1960s when she made works that required the performer, in a harness, to walk down the side of a building in Manhattan. Christopher Cook went to New York in its first winter without Twin
Towers to spend time with the choreographer whose dances have grown out of the city's architecture and who lives just 20 blocks away from the scene of last year's terrorist attacks.
