Edinburgh International Festival 2002 A concert given last month at the Usher Hall by New York's celebrated Orpheus Chamber Orchestra working, as always, without a conductor. Their programme includes a work which Honegger had to smuggle out of occupied France for its first performance and Mozart's last piano concerto, with the great American pianist Richard Goode.

Best known for his work on ethics, Williams has done more than most to stretch the philosophy's horizons beyond its staple questions to encompass the concerns of literature, themes from continental philosophy and ruminations on death.
