Howard Riley and lain Ballamy. A studio session by two of the UK's foremost creative musicians: pianist Howard Riley and saxophonist lain Ballamy. Tonight's music was captured when Jazz on 3 suggested they form a duo to record a series of Thelonious Monk tunes for the programme .
Theyworked so well togetherthatJazzon 3 left the tapes rolling, and this evening's spontaneously improvised music is the result. Inevitably, some of Monk's spirit finds its way into this evening's session. Introduced by Jez Nelson , who also reviews the best recent CD releases.
