Rigoletto
Live from the Bristol Hippodrome
Christopher Cook introduces Verdi's gripping tale of love, betrayal and murder. This new production by James Macdonald is set in the political ferment of sixties
Washington, where the Duke and his rat pack are about to turn the world of the social upstart Rigoletto upside down.
Chorus and Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, conductor Patrick Summers Parti
8.15 Twenty Minutes: Martin Parr 's Bristol
Instead of the grainy black and white in which photographers usually depict
Britain and her subjects, Martin Parr uses daylight flash and colourfilm. The results are brutally honest, without a hint of nostalgia and often show his subjects in an unforgiving light. He presents his snapshots of Bristol and talks about his current project-taking photographs of mothers and daughters out shopping together at Bristol's out-of-town shopping centre, the Mall at Cribbs Causeway.

Verity Sharp visits the Bath Festival and reports on two concerts which took place earlier today. The Royal College of Music's New Perspectives Ensemble plays a sequence of international works mixing eastern origins with western practice: Toshio Hosokawa 's Landscape VI,
Liza Lim 's Voodoo Child, Voyage d'un Reveby QigangChen and Messiaen's Couleurs de la Cite Céleste. And the second part of the programme comes from a concert given by James Wood and the New London Chamber Choir who this year celebrate 20 years on the contemporary music scene. Two anniversary commissions receive their premieres tonight: David Sawer 's
Stramm Gedichte , and Luca Francesconi 's Let Me Bleed; and the concert includes Come Holy Ghost by Jonathan Harvey , and Claude Vivier 's 0 Kosmos.
