A special concert by genre-defying oud player and composer Rabih Abou-Khalil, recorded at the Bath International Music Festival. He is joined by musicians from his latest CD, The Cactus of Knowledge, including tenor saxophonist Ellery Eskellin and virtuoso tuba player Michel Godard. The 12-piece group performs a mix of Arabic Maqam tonalities and post-bop grooves, using a collective improvisational approach. The result is highly engaging and energetic music.
