Catherine Bott talks to Handel expert Simon Heighes about Handel's impact on musical life in London at the beginning of the 18th century, and considers some of his contemporaries.
A concert recorded last week at the Ardhowen Theatre, Enniskillen, featuring the BBC Big Band with percussionist Anthony Kerr, conducted by Barry Forgie. And Julian Joseph directs from the piano a piece specially commissioned to reflect his impressions of Northern Ireland.

Saint-Saens's opera based on the biblical story from the book of Judges, recorded at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in March. Samson is the hero who fights, but eventually gives in to the feminine wiles of Dalila. When she betrays him to the Philistines, Samson prays to God to restore his strength and takes his revenge by destroying the temple of Dagon and everyone inside it.
