The Handel Singing Competition Final 2004 LucieSkeaping presents highlights from the final of this year's Handel Singing Competiton, an event that forms part of the annual London Handel Festival.
A recital given by the American soprano Christine Brewer with pianist Roger Vignoles at the Wigmore Hall in March. The programme includes songs by Strauss and Schoenberg, along with some less well known Mompou and Clara Schumann. It finishes with what Brewer calls "Flagstad favourites", a set of songs performed by Kirsten Flagstad during her American recitals of the 1940's and 50's.

Today he looks at how the Halle has often turned to Elgar's music on important occasions, including the re-opening of Manchester's Free Trade Hall in 1951, John Barbirolli 's last concerts with the orchestra in 1970, and the launch ofthe Hallo's own CD label in 2002.
