Paul Guinery introduces performances from last month's Lufthansa Festival of Early Music. The Sirin Choir from Moscow specialises in the singing of sacred music from the Orthodox tradition, including motets, psalm settings and chants from the 16th to the 18th centuries. During the same period a vast amount of music was composed forthe Roman Catholic Liturgy in Central and South America. The Mass in honour of St Ignatius Loyola by Domenico Zipoli was one of the most popular mass settings in Paraguay of the 1700s. It is performed with motets and chants from earlier centuries by Ex Cathedra, directed by Jeffrey Skidmore.
