Larry Young. Julian Joseph selects recordings by this American organist who was a founder member of Tony Williams's jazz-rock group Lifetime. Among Young's other collaborators were Lou Donaldson , Miles Davis and Pharoah Sanders. He recorded albums under his own name during the 1960s, including a Blue Note date with trumpeter Woody Shaw , drummer Elvin Jones and saxophonist Joe Henderson.

Cellist Ben Davis performs a series of semi-improvised compositions, moving easily between fugue. twisted funk, pizzicato walking bass, contemporary classical phrases and arabesque modalities. And tuba player Oren Marshall uses bass guitar effects pedals to create an extraordinarily lyrical suite.
