Joshua Rifkin continues his tour around the places where Bach lived and worked, and reaches Weimar. Bach first worked here as a violinist and lackey when he was a teenager, returning in 1708 for a stay of nine years during which he wrote most of his greatest works for organ. The original
Weimar chapel was destroyed by fire in the late 18th century, but organist John Butt demonstrates an instrument at the court chapel of Altenburg, where Bach himself once played.

Le Corbusier was arguably the 20th century's greatest architect; an idealist whose "white cube" houses and visionary writings brought him worldwide acclaim. Yet as he grew older, he claimed a connection with the Cathars, a persecuted 13th-century sect. Why would a renowned modernist, an atheist from a Protestant background, insist on an affinity with medieval Catholic heretics?
