2: ESP. Jez Nelson continues his four-part profile of saxophonist Wayne Shorter. In 1964, Miles Davis poached Shorterfrom Art Blakey 's Jazz Messengers to fill the saxophone chair in his own band vacated by John Coltrane. Shorterfound himself writing the majority of the group's pieces and made a series of landmark albums for the Blue Note label. Contributors include
Dave Douglas , McCoy Tyner , James Spaulding and Herbie Hancock.
