Extended highlights from Atlanta of all the overnight sporting action.

Among the four athletics titles to be decided are the men's 200m, with America's Michael Johnson hotly tipped before the Olympics to win a unique 200m/400m double.
The other track gold medals on offer are the women's 200m, the men's 400m hurdles and the decathlon, which finishes with the 1500m event.

Britain has high hopes for Kelly Holmes, who was expected to reach the 1500m semi-finals, and for Rob Denmark in the semi-finals of the 5,000m.

Away from the stadium, there is more action from equestrian events, boxing, basketball and the finals of the women's hockey and football.

Today's top sporting action from Atlanta, introduced by Sue Barker.

Linford Christie anchors the British team in the first round of the sprint relay at 2.15pm, and Barcelona medallist Steve Backley begins the qualifying event in the javelin.

Britain also has a strong team in the 4 x 400m relay, including Roger Black and Du'aine Ladejo, who are competing in the opening round at 3.30pm and are hoping for a coveted place in the semi-finals of the event later today. There is also a gold medal on offer in the men's 50km walk.

Other action comes from the latter stages of the competition in both archery and canoeing.

Events include the pole vault at 11.50pm, where Sergei Bubka will be looking for his second Olympic gold medal, and the final of the 3,000m steeplechase at 2.05am, with world champion Moses Kiptanui and defending Olympic champion Matthew Birir competing for Kenya. Tonight also sees the final of the women's 10,000m, the women's shot and the women's long jump, and the heats of the relays.
