Today, the world's fastest men sprint for gold. Linford Christie makes another attempt to follow Harold Abrahams (1924) and Allan Wells (1980) and become only the third British sprint gold medallist. In Seoul, Christie took silver behind Carl Lewis, after Ben Johnson was disqualified for drug-taking. Such is the strength in the American sprint field that Lewis could not even make the US squad this time around. The men who did - Leroy Burrell, Dennis Mitchell and Mark Witherspoon - will be favourites today.
In the women's 100m final, Jamaica's Merlene Ottey is still looking for her first major title. And can Tessa Sanderson, appearing in her fifth Olympics, add to her 1984 gold in the women's javelin final? Roger Black, who missed the Seoul Olympics through injury, starts out in the 400m heats.
And Tom McKean hopes to book his 800m semi-final place and erase memories of his disqualification in this round four years ago. Portugal's Rosa Mota defends her inaugural women's marathon title, and it's the first day of the heptathlon, featuring the American Jackie Joyner-Kersee. She is so much better than the other heptathletes that her coach invented a new opponent for her - 'Wilhelmina World-Record', who was well beaten in Seoul! With David Coleman, Paul Dickenson,
Brendan Foster, Stuart Storey.
Rowing
Today's seven finals should include world champions Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent in the coxless pairs. Frantic comedy starring Richard Pryor, John Candy
Monty Brewster is the pitcher for the Hackensack Bulls baseball team. He's just an ordinary guy, but something of a loser - things never go his way. That is, until he inherits a cool 300 million dollars. The only catch is, to get his hands on it, he has to spend 30 million dollars in 30 days - without giving it away.

On the eighth day of the Barcelona Games, Desmond Lynam presents the best of the evening's action, and a roundup of the day's track and field events.
Gymnastics
The finals of the four women's apparatus disciplines: the asymmetrical bars, floor, beam and vault. Olga Korbut captured the hearts of millions in 1972, with two golds and a silver in the apparatus finals. In Seoul, it was the Romanian Daniela Silivas who dominated the finals, winning the beam, the bars and the floor exercises.
Who will be the darling of Barcelona? Commentary by Barry Davies and Mitch Fenner.
Hockey
Highlights of Britain's fourth group match in the men's competition. Robert Clift's team take on underdogs Argentina. With commentary by Nigel Starmer-Smith and Ian Taylor.
10.05pm Can Tessa Sanderson snatch a medal in her fifth Olympic javelin competition?
Judo
The men's and women's half-lightweight finals, and British medals are a real possibility in both. Sharon Rendle won a demonstration gold in Seoul, and has twice been world champion. Ken Freeman, Britain's male medal contender, will face tough competition from the Koreans. Lee Kyung-keun, who won gold for Korea in Seoul, had a training programme that included midnight visits to a cemetery, where he was forced to sit alone for an hour. It has not been divulged whether the grave-watching sessions will be repeated in Barcelona.
Commentary by Jim Neilly.
Plus the football quarter-finals, the middle-heavyweight weightlifting final, and an update on all the medal news - including Tessa Sanderson's progress in the javelin final.
