The best fourth-day action from the Olympic Stadium, Helsinki. Today, Britain's Olympic and world champion Sally Gunnell started her campaign to win a first ever European title in the metres hurdles. There were also medal chances in the women's 3,000 metres with reigning champion Yvonne Murray, and in the women's 800 metres where Diane Modahl was tipped to make tonight's final.

The human animal has gone from mud hut to skyscraper in the mere twinkling of an evolutionary eye to make us the most overcrowded species in the world. In this documentary, Desmond Morris continues his personal view of the human species by examining how and why we cope with living inside what he calls The Human Zoo.

He shows that we deal with the stranger-filled urban environment by forming our own small personal "tribes" of friends, each with a territory and social hierarchy of its own.

Everyone else is a non-person to be blanked out. However, although this is a successful recipe for peaceful living, sometimes violence and mayhem does break out - usually between tribes but even within a tribe. If we are to survive, Morris believes we need to adapt the city to the basic nature of the human animal rather than forcing the human animal to adapt to the city.Â

The BBC Philharmonic come to the Proms in their 60th anniversary year. Under their principal conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier and as part of the celebration of the Proms' first hundred years, they perform two of the many works which received their British premiere at these concerts. The first is Ravel's Piano Concerto for the Left Hand (originally written for a pianist who lost his right arm in the First World War - tonight's soloist is Jean-Yves Thibaudet) followed by Sibelius's powerful First Symphony.

"I made my debut at the Proms in 1962 when I was 15, playing the violin in the Brahms Double Concerto with my late father, Paul," says Tortelier. "It was my first contact with a London audience and they gave me an unforgettable welcome."
"Since 1988 I've appeared at the Proms every year as a conductor, and to me it is the greatest musical event in the world. Tonight we combine French music with Sibelius, not an obvious coupling but one I find extraordinarily appealing. There is great poetry in Sibelius and he can be extremely impressionistic, too."
The programme is introduced by Richard Baker.
