Margaret Tyzack and Jane Lapotaire co-star as two women at war over the future of a small
Scottish island. Miss Pride is the rightful landlord of Portacarrick, but Miss Cost is determined to turn It into a tourist attraction after the alleged cure of a young boy's warts by a "fairy" spring. A local squabble turns sinister after an attempt on Miss Pride's life; old friend Alleyn returns from his holiday to investigate.
A web of adultery and sexual jealousy soon weaves Itself around picturesque Pixie Falls.
The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries first came to the screen last year; Dead Water and other new episodes are showing as occasional "one-offs" rather than as a single series.
