Spring is with us, but on the Scottish mountains it is still winter. Hundreds of people go up over snow and ice, and some will have to be brought down by rescue teams - the lucky ones will be alive.
Today's programme explores the dangers of the Scottish hills. Its climax is the first-ever dawn-to-dusk film of a big winter rescue operation.

A serial in five parts based on the novel by Neil Munro
Dramatised for television by Clifford Hanley
with Tom Watson as Ninian Campbell, David Ashton as Aeneas Macmaster and John Grieve as Sandy Duncanson

It was little more than a step to the clear, cool night from the lobby of Drimdorran House but every step in life has its own particular fate attending it, and Aeneas Macmaster, though he could not guess it, was fairly landed upon the great adventure of his life.

Tonight's film from the cinema's hall of fame stars Barry Fitzgerald, Howard Duff, Don Taylor

A murdered blonde; two detectives assigned to the case; a falsely suspected victim of circumstance - all the ingredients of a routine police thriller, but The Naked City, filmed on location in New York, was given a strikingly realistic treatment which was to influence a whole line of crime movies right down to the recent The French Connection.
