In 1990, Stephen Craven was convicted of the murder of 19-year-old Penny Laing at a Newcastle nightclub on Christmas Eve 1989. Magistrates initially dismissed the case through insufficient evidence but the police, convinced he was their man, issued a voluntary bill of indictment and Craven was subsequently tried and convicted of murder. To date he has served six years of a life sentence. Now Rough Justice has uncovered evidence not disclosed at the trial, which could point to his innocence.
