For the past three weeks 3,000 Christians from every continent have been meeting in Vancouver as the Sixth Assembly of the World Council of Churches. Their debates and discussions under the theme Jesus Christ - the life of the world, have focused on two issues: the relation between faith and politics and the future of the movement for Christian unity.
The WCC has a turbulent political record on race, human rights and social justice and many Christians have asked whether the Council has got its theology right. At the same time, the drive for unity - despite the WCC's 300 member churches-has been judged by some to have run out of steam.
In this special report on the events and debates of Vancouver, John Whale of The Sunday Times and Rosemary Hartill , the BBC's Religious Affairs Correspondent, ask ' what does the Assembly mean for the churches? '

The final day of this first-ever championship, which has witnessed the greatest gathering of track and field athletes of all time. The pick of this afternoon's 11 finals is the 1500m, the distance at which Britain boasts the world record holder STEVE OVETT , and the European and Commonwealth Champion STEVE CRAM.
There will be live coverage also of the marathon, whose 26-mile 385-yard route runs in part along the coast and lakes around the Finnish capital. The women's 200m final could see KATHY COOK among the medals, while our men's 4 x 400m team will be hoping to uphold Britain's great tradition in the event.

with the Corrymeela Community, Northern Ireland
At the end of November 1965 about 300 people gathered in a large white house overlooking the Atlantic on a windswept headland on the north coast of Ireland. They were people who saw the need in a divided society for some new expression of Christianity in the face of the paralysis of so much church life. Today it is a thriving community devoted to fostering better understanding between all kinds of men and women not only in Ireland but far beyond. Seamus McKee visited the Community for its celebratory Summerfest and spoke to those who remember its beginnings and who have experienced its peace; and the members and friends of Corrymeela sing the songs which are the inspiration of their work.
