The separate men's and women's matches include many top stars from the World Championships in Helsinki last week. Each country has one athlete per event and the competition, decided on a points basis, traditionally produces some very exciting athletics.
The men's finalists are East Germany, USSR, West Germany, Poland, Italy, Hungary, France, Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
