The Hampshire Avon is still in Wiltshire for the second leg of Richard Cusden's voyage. But Wiltshire has many delights and the Avon, it seems, flows through most of them. So does Cusden, who finds fairytale England and fairytale Japan side by side upon the water. And after that, only a glimpse of Salisbury Cathedral is good enough to round off the trip.

In the Olympic Stadium Sebastian Coe is attempting to become the first ever World Champion at 800m, and erase the memories of his defeats in Moscow and Athens.

The men's 800m is one of five finals to be decided this afternoon. In the 400m hurdles, the overwhelming favourite is Ed Moses of the USA, who has dominated the event since winning the Olympic title in 1976. Also, there should be a thrilling struggle in the 10,000m and the women's 800m, while a world record is a possibility in the women's high jump final. Commentators David Coleman, Ron Pickering, Stuart Storey and Brendan Foster
Reporter Tony Gubba

The second of two programmes The Patient's Dilemma
A woman who held off her liver cancer for seven years to nurse a sick husband; another whose inoperable tumour ' melted away ' when she left the stage to start up business with her husband, but then died from it when they were robbed -these moving stories illustrate the proposal that the cause and cure of cancer are linked to state of mind.
We see ' meditation' used in attempts to control the body's response; and visit the controversial Simonton clinic in Dallas, Texas, where patients are taught to ' visualise ' bizarre images of their own natural defences attacking the tumour.
The dilemma for any patient with advanced cancer is whether to round off a failing life with dignity, or to fight on to the last. But who should have the responsibility for making that choice? The doctor? Or the patient whose life is in the balance?
