At 22, Imogen Foulkes from South Wales is the boss of a business with 200 employees and an income in excess of L3 million a year. She is senior president of Edinburgh University Students Association and spokeswoman for 10,000 students.
For Imogen and her executive colleagues in power-Tony Miles, Alan Little and Laurence O'Don nell - election to the coveted posts brings a sabbatical year away from academic study and a salary of over £4,000. They are also expected to represent and campaign on behalf of their members and customers, the students.
With university grants falling in value, many undergraduates are having to skimp to survive. Imogen leads her supporters on to the streets to carry the message home to the public. They face opposition both on and off the campus.
