Once a week, a coded phone call is made from a small London flat. Mehmet Ali Dikerdem is seeking news of his father, an ailing 69-year-old former ambassador who is locked up in jail with 20,000 other political prisoners, in a country where free trade unions are suppressed and there are reports of widespread torture.
