An Open Door programme about bankruptcy made by Alan [text removed].
We've all heard about the multimillionaires who choose bankruptcy as a means of escape from paying their debts, but in today's recession bankruptcy is affecting, more than ever before, the small businessman and private Individuals. As one official receiver put it, ' I'm fed up with people coming in here who can't pay for their central heating!' ALAN[text removed] is a bankrupt, and made this programme, not to fly a flag for bad payers, but to show how unfair the system really is.

Fifteen years ago, on 6 March 1967, the only daughter of Josef Stalin, Svetlana Alliluyeva, walked into the American Embassy in Delhi. It was one of the most dramatic defections from the Soviet Union ever. She has lived in the USA ever since. Last summer she spent a week in Sussex at the home of Malcolm Muggeridge, with whom she has corresponded for over ten years.

Svetlana is now 56 years old and has two grown-up children in Russia with whom she is unable to communicate. She is a Christian, secretly baptised while still living in Moscow.

During her stay she talked with Muggeridge about the extent to which religious faith persists within the Soviet Union, about her upbringing in the Kremlin, her mother's suicide, her own increasingly difficult relationship with her father, and about her hopes and fears for the future.

(The final part of Muggeridge: Ancient and Modern on Thursday at 3.55 pm)
