A nuclear doomsday is the most terrifying prospect facing mankind and preventing it the most urgent problem.
During the 70s, hopes for genuine arms limitation by the superpowers centred on SALT (Strategic
Arms Limitation Talks), But that process came to a halt after the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 19/9 and the SALT 11 treaty signed by Presidents Carter and Brezhnev has never been implemented.
