Do you hate snakes? If so, you may be pleased to know you are in good company. Snakes probably rank as the foremost object of repugnance known to man. But is the snake unjustly condemned?

Tonight's Horizon explores the inscrutable creature and invites us to allay some of our deepest fears. Despite their fearsome and dramatic behaviour, snakes turn out to be retiring, non-aggressive creatures; and the feared venom of their bite may turn out to be of great value. Could it be, against all our expectations, that the snake offers us a surprising promise, rather than a threat?
