Ten years ago the idea of an Australian film season on television might have seemed a little fanciful, now their cinema has a firm identity of its own which is well able to handle Pommy jokes about didgeridoos and billabongs. By giving it a firmly Australian flavour they have managed to make its appeal international. Gavin Millar introduces the forthcoming season, which starts on BBC2 tomorrow.
