The Royal Institution Christmas Lectures for young people
A series of six lectures given by Professor R. V. Jones , FRS 4: Onwards to the Stars
The range of measurement now possible has enabled us to know not only the size of atoms only a few 100-millionths of a centimetre across, but also the distance of galaxies so far away that light travelling from them takes thousands of millions of years to reach us.
Between these extremes we shall see how the scale of our everyday life fits intricately into the immensity of the universe.

This was one of the last films Natalie Wood made before her death last month and was her only documentary. In it she joined forces with Peter Ustinov whose family, like her own, came from Russia. Together they toured the Hermitage in Leningrad - one of the world's greatest treasure houses of art and history, housed in the beautiful Winter Palace on the banks of the Neva.
