Paul Gauguin and the Construction of Paradise
An Omnibus film about the best-known legend in the history of art: how the small-time business-man left his roots and went in search of a pagan paradise in the South Seas. This film looks at the image of himself that GAUGUIN hoped to promote in his book Noa Noa, the story of his first stay in Tahiti, at the private notebooks and letters in which he reveals the real facts about his adventures, and at the Tahitian paintings themselves - rich, mysterious evocations of the paradise he had hoped to discover. Nine documentary programmes which take a close look at a controversial police force in action. 2: Chasing the Dragon
In Hong Kong, about one in every
45 is a drug addict. The older addicts still smoke opium. But the young have turned to opium's deadly derivative - heroin. Smoking heroin is called ' Chasing the Dragon '.
The task of eliminating the Dragon' has fallen to the Hong
Kong Police -a task described as like trying to eat clear soup with chopsticks. The drug arrives by Junk from Thailand. It filters down to the street through a tortuous chain of middlemen. Most of these will be Triads-swom to secrecy under pain of 36 ferocious oaths.
In the street-level fight against the' Dragon ', the police can arrest addicts with pathetic ease. But it is not so easy to put behind bars the Mr Bigs - or even the Mr Not-so-Bigs.
