Live from Guildhall in London.
Introduced by Susan Stranks with specialist comment and assessment by Ralph Holmes
Tonight, three of the six finalists in this competition play a concerto before a distinguished international jury presided over by Yehudi Menuhin.
Some 40 competitors from 16 countries entered the earlier stages which began last Friday, and the finalists have already performed a violin sonata as part of the final round.
Named after the great Hungarian violinist and teacher, the Carl Flesch Competition began in 1945, and took on its present expanded format 12 years ago. The nine main prizes range from £3,500 down to £300, but the aim is as much to further the careers of all gifted violinists who compete, as it is to select prize-winners.
In Part 1, two finalists perform with the ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA leader BARRY GRIFFITHS conducted by EDWARD DOWNES
(Part 2 is at 10.0 pm)
