continues a season of distinguished film adaptations from London and Broadway productions. starring
Brecht's powerful drama about the great 16th-century scientist and mathematician was first produced in Hollywood in 1947. Some 30 years later its original stage director - Joseph Losey - has transferred it to the screen in a version that is at once ambitious yet faithful to the original. An imposing cast re-enact this monumental work about the genius who opposed the dogma of the then Catholic Church - and suffered the consequences of their hypocrisy.

New Orleans
Donny MacLeod continues his journey across America.
Near the mouth of the mighty Mississippi, New Orleans is ' a pot of gold at the end of a muddy rainbow'. It's a heady mix of French, Spanish and Creole traditions, the shaded courtyards and balconied alleys ringing with the sound of pure New Orleans jazz. But the real sound of the city is the evocative whistling of the steam calliope which heralded the arrival of the great Mississippi paddle steamers. And it's still heard to this day, thanks to the captain of one surviving steam-boat, who proves that the Mark Twain lifestyle can still be found.
