Roads to El Dorado
Commentary written and narrated by Reyner Banham
If you're in Los Angeles, and you want to gamble in Las Vegas, you have to cross 450 miles of Mojave Desert. For many, the Mojave is simply a desert to cross. But for REYNER BANHAM, the writer and architectural historian, the desert is a place to linger in and enjoy. In this film, we get a chance to linger and enjoy that 450-mile desert crossing with him, and to meet some of the strange characters who have made the desert their home. And above all, we get a chance to see why many people regard the Mojave Desert as the most beautiful place in the world.

Tonight Jeremy James , in the last of this series, ends his critical look at three different but disturbingly similar aspects of the British way of sport. 3: Swimming
We have always struggled to find world champions in the swimming pool-for many of the reasons already seen in last night's Athletics.
Tonight, with our last Olympic Gold medallist David Wilkie , and our brightest hopes for Moscow-Sharron Davies , Maggie Kelly and Martin Smith-we look at what the prospects are for future success. And, perhaps more important from the swimmers' point of view, at the impact of swimming on their lives, at the pressures imposed not only by world-class competition, but by our muddled attitudes towards success, and whether at the end of the day it is all worthwhile.

starring
F. Scott Fitzgerald 's autobiographical short story. The Last of the Belles, fictionalises his first meeting with his wife Zelda. This play within a play, made for American television, portrays Fitzgerald with his wife and child in 1928, when he was about to write the story-and then slips back to 1919, to Tarleton, Georgia, where a young officer, Andy McKenna , first sets eyes on Ailie Calhoun ...
The best and most faithful capturing of the Fitzgerald mood and quality.
