'The series which explores living memory' is ten years old this spring. To mark the occasion we present eight programmes from its earlier years.

Early in 1945 the Danish Underground made a desperate plea to the RAF to attempt the impossible: to bomb a single building in the centre of crowded Copenhagen. Just one building, Shell House, the Gestapo Headquarters. Not only that, but to destroy the ground floors only - for in the attic were over 30 captured Resistance Leaders, held there as hostages against possible air attack...

We would all love to have our own friendly robot - doing the house-work, serving us drinks. But are robots also a threat to us? Already they are at work in industry, welding, painting and casting, although Britain has been slow in introducing them.

The present generations of robots are still pretty stupid, but university research is investigating the possibilities of giving robots sight, touch and hearing, linked to ever-expanding microprocessor brains. How many of our jobs will they then be able to do?

Do we want replacements for humans or do we want smart machines that can relieve us of unpleasant, dangerous or boring jobs? Have we really decided what jobs we want people to do?

(Repeated next Saturday)

Part 3: Outside the Golden Triangle
Awkward, argumentative, aggressive, the British are the black sheep of Europe. Seen from Brussels, it's difficult to understand why we still fight old battles instead of playing a full part in building a new Europe.
Seen from Bradford, 294 miles from Brussels as the non-existent aeroplane would fly, it's difficult to understand what advantages we have gained from membership of the European family. The disadvantages seem clear enough.
Next month, the people of Bradford go to the polls to select their member of the European Parliament. For the first time, they will have a direct say in the way Europe is to be run. What message will their mp be taking to the bureaucrats of Brussels?
In a film made to be shown throughout Europe, Michael Wood assesses the impact six years of membership of the EEC has had on Bradford, outside the golden triangle of modern Europe.
