The Ship that Lost a Fortune Part 2: Realisation
After the successful start to the ' Colossus Excavation' in 1975 Dr Ann Birchall , the Archaeological Director, was faced with the mammoth task of sorting and reconstructing the thousands of fragments of ancient Greek pottery that the divers had recovered from the sea-bed off the Isles of Scilly. Would it be possible to recreate any of the lost vases from Sir William Hamilton 's collection? For DR BIRCHALL, the work of the ' Colossus Unit' set up at the British Museum has led to the realisation of a personal ambition and the first completed vase. Commentary by DR BIRCHALL
