Variations on a Theme of patterns, light, sound and music in a film without words.
An African sun dissolves the lingering lake-side mist revealing wraiths as hosts of feathered flowers - pink-tipped orchids poised on slender stalks. Myriad wings take flights of fancy, free as wind and sky, coming together in communion to reflect on golden sheen ... turning to silhouettes at sunset ... strung. with Diane's diamond necklace at night. Birds of demi-paradise.

The Story of Britain's Royal Builders and Collectors. Told by Huw Wheldon in a series of nine programmes 4:The Stuarts Restored
Newmarket and Royal Ascot, Chelsea Pensioners , and the Crown Jewels, owe their existence to the later Stuarts. Charles 11's reign, despite his reputation as the ' Merry Monarch ', was not all trumpery and pleasure. Founder of the Royal Society and the Royal Observatory, he had a huge influence on the beginnings of yachting in Britain and the development of the British Navy. In Christopher Wren , who designed the Royal Naval Hospital at Greenwich and re-designed
Hampton Court Palace, the later Stuarts gave a great architect the opportunity to produce great architecture, not just for the court but also for the nation.

Tonight from BBC South West
The Magic of a Dartmoor Stream
For two years prize-winning cameraman Richard Philps waited and watched by the side of the River Lyd close to his home on Dartmoor. He provides a portrait of river life that the holiday-maker passes by and the men of the moor usually take for granted. He filmed buzzards and herons and the loveable dippers who are just as happy walking under water as flying above it. RICHARD PHILPS also provides a strange answer to the question why so many female kingfishers go bald during the mating season.
